If I am turning left on a green arrow light into a main road and someone on the same main road is doing a u turn on a green arrow into the same lane as me, who should give way?

I assume the person doing the left turn has the right of way but on observation, nearly every time, the person doing the U turn just goes round. Who would be liable if this crashed.

Hi there,
I would think that the give-way rule would apply, so the left turning vehicle would have to give way to their right. Which would be where the vehicle would be entering into your lane
from. However upon further hunting, it does seem that the u-turn vehicle would have to give way.

In the past I have discussed this with a senior Police Officer who advised that the driver who
is doing the U turn gives away as they are changing direction of travel.

That's interesting. I've read online that In Australia the U turning car gives way to all other traffic.
