I purchased a secondhand vehicle on Jan 6 in Christchurch. I live in Timaru. It came with an AA inspection. 3 weeks later the brake calipers seized up. The dealer reimbursed me for parts and Labour which I am quite happy with. I then discovered the seals on the windscreen were lifting. The dealer told me to get a quote from the local Smith and Smith autoglass, who said the seals were shrinking and would need replaced. I was given a price that included the option of a new windscreen if they could not reuse the old one. The dealer now wants me to take it to Christchurch to get repaired and states he will be claiming against AA for the repairs to brakes and windscreen seals. Is it unreasonable to be expected to travel to another city to get this problem fixed? Surely his issues with the AA inspection is not my problem and I should be able to get the problem repaired in Timaru.

Hi there,
For minor vehicle faults to be repaired under the CGA, the dealer can choose the remedy as they see fit. If this is what they require to get the vehicle repaired, then the dealer fulfilling their obligation. Unfortunately in this case you are unable to choose the remedy, and is one of the downsides of buying a vehicle in a different town to which you reside.
