Hi team,
I am familiar with not being able to tint own lights or put covers over however there is a seller on TradeMe selling tinted lights (tinted from manufacturer) claiming they are sae/dot certified and E marked wiht no indication to advise these are not NZ compliant. I have found in the LVVTA (i think it is) that lights under the DOT certification comply with the FMVCSS (from memory), however it is unclear as to whether these need to be then LV certified?

Does this mean that a) DOT/SAE/E marked smoked lights are road legal in NZ, and b) do you need a LV certification to have them on a car?

Here for example: Smoked tail lights advising SAE/DOT approved (i know on Ebay there is a matching set of headlamps to these)

This is a pair of headlights are are also SAE/DOT/E Marked however they are not tinted, just a black housing. This I presume is NZ road legal as the lens has not been tinted and it is just a dark housing?

Hi there,
Providing the lights meet the warrant of fitness performance criteria, and are of an approved standard (Dot/Sae ect), there should be no need for low volume certification.
