Hi. I have seen a 2001 Mazda demio for sale, it is a 1.5 litre, and I was wondering if it had a cambelt or a camchain. My parents used to have a 2003 mazda demio 1.5 that had a camchain, but since this is the model before, would it likely be the same??
Also, would an "AA" check getting done before I purchased a vechile be able to check the wear on the cambelt if it had one, and what in general does an "AA" check involve and cost if I was to get one before buying??

According to data available to us, the 2001 Demio 1.5 has a belt which must be replaced every 90,000km. No checking can or should be done on a belt - it's just a case of ensuring the servicing has been completed on time, so if there's no verified history assuring you the belt hasn't been replaced within the last 90,000km, it must be replaced.
An AA Pre-purchase Inspection would be advisable on a car of this age. Details of what is covered can be found by clicking the link.
