Hi There, I have a Corolla 2001 automatic transmission which has run over 190K so far. In last few days I have noticed a engine knocking sound. This generally happens when I am going uphill or if the RPM is between 1 and 2. However, the moment I increase the acceleration the knocking sound disappears. What could be the possible reasons for this?
Additional information - I got my car serviced recently by AA with engine oil flush. I also got the engine gasket changed as it was recommended by the technician. In addition, I also keep a check on engine oil regularly because I drive the car on an average of 1,000Km a fortnight.

Hi there,
It sounds to me link the engine is "pinking" and usually can mean the fuel or ignition timing are not in tune with each other (in general terms) or this can also happen if the engine is burning a lot of oil. .
One easy thing to try is changing to 95 octane fuel if you are using 91, otherwise having a workshop look into the reason for the "pinking" is ultimately the best thing to do.
