I have a 162kw 2019 Skoda Superb Wagon TSI with a tow bar that has a braked towing rated at 2000kg. Does that mean that I can safely tow a caravan that weighs up to 2000kg? I am planning on buying a caravan and want to know what weight I can safely tow with my vehicle.
Thanks.

Hi there,
Correct, this means that your vehicle has been tested and approved by the vehicle manufacturer to be able to stop within a safe distance while towing a max braked load up to 2,000kg.

Has this anything to do with the weight of the vehicle itself?

Hi there,
I would expect that the vehicle weight would play a part in the establishing of the manufacturers tow rating. The vehicle will also have specs on the maximum loaded weight your vehicle is designed to carry and the maximum combination weight of the vehicle and load which will all factor in the manufacturers tow capacity. The NZTA has a recommended tow practice which uses the vehicle weight where the exact tow specs are unknown.

Thanks. The dealer confirmed that the towing capacity is 2 tons.
