Hi all,

This is regards to VW Polo 2013 Model. The car is driven by my mother (so low km). Around March 2021, VW NZ contacted us for above. We booked in and service by Gazley Wellington on 31 March 2021. On 7 December 2021, the DSG transmission was not working properly (ie not reverse at all but can still go forward). Contacted Gazley and booked in for repair and didn't get to access/inspect the vehicle till 24 December 2021.

Now, the interesting part is that, the service department said that it is not mechatronic fault or the recall but part of the magatronic has failed. They have quoted us about 5K - 6K to repair and needs a new Mechatronic. But, as a simple consumer, we feel that have given the stick.

Questions
1. Do you think the service department is trying to void any responsibility of the last Recall check? Ie; they never open it up and now failed? Or, they can have open it up and failed to put it back properly?
2. Attempting to contact the VW NZ directly and even trying contacting the After Sales Manager, Tony Leyford - no joy (as holiday season)
3. What process/steps should I proceed next?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, If the vehicle is outside of a warranty you would need to pay for repairs unless the issue is part of a recall.

The CGA also applies a vehicle must be of acceptable quality durable and safe. If your mother believes that it hasn't met this guarantee she can present the matter in the Motor vehicle disputes tribunal. How low is the mileage would you consider the vehicle has been reasonably durable and of acceptable quality?, if not perhaps push the matter further with after sales.

Thanks Ian An, happy New Year to you and your family.
Unfortunately, VW is out of warranty. Below is the latest update.
VW NZ had contact Gazley and manage to assist on providing some subsidy on the part. For now, we are waiting for the part to arrive from Auckland. It was so inconveniences without car during the Christmas holiday period. But, at least there is a solution at the end. Other lesson learn is that all parts does wear and tear but for VW; may be just unfortunately us that megatronic has failed even after 2 recalls. The other recall was done on Oct 2019.
