The intermittent phase on my windscreen wipers occassionaly does not work. I have had an auto electrician check this out and he fitted a new wiper switch and checked all connections but the fault still exists.
At the same time the reversing chimes do not woek as well. I am wondering if the fault might lie with the wiring for the reversing sensors I had fitted when I purchased the car ion 2005.
The windscree wiper problem drives me crazy as I do quite a lot of fairly long trips.

Thanks in advance Jim Taylor

It sounds more like a relay type problem more than the wiper switch itself.

Hard to imagine why, but it may be worth tracing the wiring for the reversing sensors to check for a common connection with the wipers.

As this vehicle is a Prestige model I also wonder if there is a possible connection with some other on-board electronic components.

Some of the European cars for example have wiper speeds controlled by vehicle speed.

Love to know if you ever do find out what the problem was.

Hi Jack
I received an email advising that there was a further comment on my problem but have been unable to find it (the comment). However I have found out that when the reverse chimes and intermittent phase on the wipers are not working if I open and close the drivers door thids fixes it! Does this give you any firther lead as to what the problem is

This does sound like a relay or body electrics module problem (or something causing the relay/module a problem). Opening and closing the door energises some of the vehicle modules, so it sounds like the module that controls power to the intermittent wiper circuit is not being "woken up" when you get into the car. It seems likely that the installer of the parking sensors has taken the power feed from the same source as the intermittent wiper module, hence both circuits having problems.

If (as we suspect) both items are on the same circuit, one possibility is that the parking sensors are drawing excessive current, so this is shutting down the relay to prevent overloading. Perhaps disconnecting the parking aid for a period of time will prove or disprove this theory. (ie; if the wipers don't give trouble, you know the problem is likely to be with the parking sensors).

Another thing to check is the interior light. If this isn't working, or is intermittent, it's possible that the relay is not getting the signal that you have entered the car. If you find you do have an intermittent problem with the interior light, remove the door switch and clean the contacts as it could possibly be something as simple as corroded door switch contacts.
