I've got a 1989 Toyota Liteace van and now I'm up to the fourth time that the left rear axle seal has been found to be leaking. This time I've only done 7000 km in just over a 6 month period. Any idea what on earth is going on? I've changed the garage I go to but unfortunately I have to go back to the guys that did the job to get it done under warranty again. I don't have much confidence in their ability to finally fix this issue. Any advice? PS They are an AA accredited garage.

It could be a fault on the side shaft sealing surface. The mechanic needs to inspect this area to ensure its smooth before replacing the seal. Another possibility is a faulty wheel bearing or a blocked differential breather. The mechanic needs to dig a bit deeper to find the cause.

Hi Donovan,
Thanks so much for the quick reply, the information will be very useful. I will see how it goes on Monday.

At this stage I don't think it can be a problem with the seal and it's more than likely something causing the seal to fail.
