Ive been looking into mitsy lancers, aprox 2009. They tick all the boxes for with regards to size & price.. And styling. My worry is the auto trans. In my line of work, hearing by word of mouth over the last few years, CVT transmissions seem to have a bad rep, unreliable and hard to service. How do i get a proper neutral opinion of how bad these really are?? This will be a large purchase for me, on my own & its daunting. Also the reliability of these cars in general. Thanks

In the past, CVT's were quite unreliable, but on more modern cars such as a 2009 Lancer, technology has moved on and the reliability issues seem to have been resolved. As far as we are aware, there are no known issues with the CVT on this car.
General reliability for this model seems good too. If there is a criticism of this model, it would be that there is quite a lot of road noise - particularly on NZ course chip, open road surfaces. Otherwise, it's quite a pleasant car.
