Hello

I have a 2008 Prado, D4D engine, purchased late last year and now done 83,000 kms.

I had it serviced by Rutherford and Bond (Kapiti) in December. At that stage, it had done 76,000 kms and they serviced as for 75,000 kms.

R and B have just sent a card saying it's due for another service, as six months since the last one.

Is this six monthly service necessary or can I wait till 90,000 kms?

The car is used on roads only, generally for trips of at least 10 kms, occasional towing (some moderately heavy tow loads but not many).

I intend to keep this car for a long time.

What do you think?

Thanks

Tony

Because you do a lot of stop/go driving and occasional towing you should stick to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Diesel engine oil is contaminated by the diesel bypassing the piston rings, more so when towing and cold starting, and a fresh lot of oil and a new oil filter will go a long way in reducing the risks of engine failure.
