Hi, I have a 2L 2002 VW Golf. The transmission was repaired and rebuilt a few months ago, but there are still some erratic problems e.g. when driving the car engine will over rev - not changing into gear, when I am accelerating - the problem has self corrected - taking my foot off the accelerator, coasting and trying again. No fault code has been logged as I have taken the car to my mechanic and he has scanned it. Why would it not be logged? I have written in about this car and its transmission problems before. It seems that nothing can be done until there is a fault code scanned. We would like to sell this car and get something else. Any advice? On how to get it fixed or how to sell it? Thanks.

If this occurs all the time, and when the engine is warm then there is a problem and I suggest you take it to an automatic transmission specialist for an opinion.
If the problem only occurs when the engine is cold, it could be normal. The transmission is designed to hold onto lower gears and not change up when the engine is cold in order to warm the engine up quicker, so depending on the exact circumstances, it may be operating as intended.
If you believe there is a problem and seek advice of a transmission specialist, make sure they don't dismantle anything or do any work on it, as you will need to give the original repairer the opportunity to put it right (at no cost to you).
As far as selling the car is concerned, obviously it will be hard to sell with a transmission problem, so you will really need to get it resolved if you are to obtain the best price.
