My 2007 vw polo has a slipping clutch as advised by the dealership and the advice is to replace it, which costs a arm and a leg, as I am also doing a120 000km cambelt service as per their recommendation. I wanted to know if the a slipping clutch has to be completely replaced, and as a women who is clueless I want to know the cost for sorting this out, if I wee to try and find a quote somewhere other that the dealership.

It is always advisable to replace the whole clutch, which includes the clutch plate, pressure plate and release bearing. If you try to get away with just doing the clutch plate, the saving is minimal as the labour is still the same, and in the event it doesn't fix your problem, the job will have to be done again.
However, there's nothing from stopping you from shopping around to see if the job can be done cheaper elsewhere.
