We have a 2004 Skoda Fabia. The hatch release push button just above the rear number plate has become unreliable. You can hear the switch under the rubber cover working but the release solenoid does not always work. I have checked the spring loaded solenoid in the lock mechanism and this appears OK. Is there some interlock involved or should I be looking elsewhere? Thanks, Ross

You will need to use a multimeter and test at the lock actuator side to see whether you always receive a good power supply along with a decent earth to the actuator when pressing on the switch. If the supply is good then the actuator could possibly be faulty. If you don't always receive a supply then the switch, or even the body control unit, could be faulty. Only test the vehicles wiring if you have the skills to do so otherwise you need to take the vehicle to a mechanic or auto electrician to diagnose. You should start off by lubricating the lock and mechanism - hopefully this is all that is needed.
