Hi - I recently tested my cig lighter connection by trying a small kettle, which requires 12volt. It started to warm the water, but after a few mins switched off. Afterwards I tried my cellphone connection in the lighter, but no power. I have a Toyota Estima, 1996. I'm assuming the car's electrical system is 12 v.
Do I need to go to an auto electrician or normal mechanic to have it fixed/checked?

It sounds like the kettle has drawn too many amps and blown the cigarette lighter fuse. You can try locating the fuse box inside the vehicle and check the cigarette lighter fuse condition. If it is fused it will need replacing. If this isn't the problem then you should take the vehicle to an auto electrician to get it checked out.

Hi AA team,

Could I please have a quick quote for replacing my cigarette lighter plug. I have a Toyota Trueno 1996.

I'd suggest you contact an auto-electrician for a quote. They may need to see the car first, but this shouldn't be too expensive though.
