I have a 1998 Nissan Primera Wagon that has done over 200,000 kms and of late I have been experiencing surging. It can either be when I start off there is no power then it will just suddenly surge away or I can be driving along and it starts to die then a few seconds later will pickup and surge forward. I have had new plugs etc done and a transmission flush but to no avail. Any ideas. Thanks

It could be one of many possibilities but a good starting point is to check the fuel pressure and also check for any air leaks around the intake manifold. The CVT transmissions on these vehicles do not have a great reputation either and if it is related to the fault then it will be a costly repair. I suggest you take the vehicle to a good mechanic who can diagnose the fault for you.

If it is one of the engine management sensors that are failing then your mechanic might find a fault code stored in the ECU when carrying out a diagnostic scan of the computers.
