Hi,

The 100,000km service on my 2002 Legacy is due and the local Subaru dealer has quoted $1350 for replacing the cambelt and water pump and $1100 for the 100,000km service (includes full fluid change and replacement of all filters and spark plugs) - so $2450 (inc. GST) all up.

Does this sound fair? It's far more than I've ever paid for a service in the past but I've never owned a car needing its cambelt replaced before. Just want to be sure I'm not being taken for a ride.

The 100,000km service is a major service on this vehicle and includes spark plugs (not a quick job on this model), all fluids including diff oils and a transmission service, etc etc, so $1,100 is probably about what you would expect this to cost at a franchise dealer for a Legacy GTB. $1350 for the cambelt and water pump is also about what you would expect to pay at a franchise dealer, so no, it doesn't seem that you're not being taken for a ride - it's just a big job.
