I see there have been previously several questions about the reliability of these, but they generally seem to date back a few years. I am looking at a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer VRX, imported new to NZ, and wondered if the reliability issues still remained for such a model. Its the 2.4l engine and has done 22,000km.
Thanks

Earlier CVTs never had a good reputation but from the feedback we receive we are under the impression the newer CVTs have improved.

The CVT transmission is widely used these days and almost every Japanese car manufacturer use them to help reduce fuel economy ratings.

Try avoiding older vehicles fitted with CVT transmissions but in the year model you are considering, and the low mileage, you shouldn't be too concerned.

What year did the CTV transmission improve? I am interested in a Toyota Wish and would like to avoid this problem.

Car importers in New Zealand are telling us that the CVT transmissions on their products have improved and from around the 2009 model should have better reliability. A low mileage vehicle will help too.

You could consider the 1.8L Toyota Wish (pre-2009 models) that uses a conventional four-speed automatic transmission. But if you are looking at a 2009 or newer - we believe they have improved.
