Hi, I'm looking a buying a toyota wish 2004 one is a VVTI 1.8 the other is a VVTI D4 2.0 both have done the same km and same price. Can you please tell me what would be the better buy as I have heard the D4 engine can have more problems is the D4 and VVTI D4 engine the same thing people are talking about that they are more prone to problems. I really like the VVTI D4 car better but don't want to buy it if it is going to have more mechanical issues.

It's really the direct injection system on the D4 that can give problems. Both models have Variable Valve Timing, which is fine.
Although the 2.0 D4 does have more power, the 1.8 has the better long-term reliability reputation.
