My engine bay is filthy, and I wanted to get some engine bay citrus decrease and decrease the engine bay. I would glad-wrap electrical components, and only lightly spray with water, but is this a bit of a not-so-good thing to do??

There's nothing wrong with cleaning a dirty engine as long as you take care not to get water into the untake or electrical system - it's done every day at every garage - most of them use a steam cleaner or water blaster so don't be too concerned about the pressure, but doo take care where the water is directed.
Another thing to consider is the environment, so make sure you're not washing oil, grease or chemicals down the drain!
