I have a 98 Dimante wagon V6 single cam aus import.
It had an oil leak and it has been missing occassionly.
Sometimes when I have had to reduce my speed on open roads down to a compulsary Stop it would cut out.

After a full service using Plat plugs my car was ok but still not driving nicely.
Mechanic suggested new leads. I purchased Bosch leads. Car ran even worse.
Mechanic suggested was electrical and could be the rotor and cap. Replaced with new parts.

I can now walk quicker than my car will drive. It has no power. Mechanic had car most of Dec and some of Jan. Problem is worse.

Problem seemed to get worse when I had the new leads installed. By this time the Mechanic is avoiding my phone calls and text messages about repairs.

I call out a mechanic on a Sunday. They discover that Four leads have been connected wrongly.

Car is running way better but still not right. It still has no power in low gear and missing.

Oil and water are fine. ... has not over heated (that I am aware of)

Over the past 3 years I have replaced water fuel pumps tensioners cambelt Rocket covers crank shaft. In fact I think every thing has been done with quality parts. The head and motor Have not been done
Car until recently was beautiful to drive.

Oh .... Mechanic said that he had done a compression test and the only inconsistancy was slight in one valve. Whatever that means. Not sure that I believe this was actually done now.

Help please!
Thanks

Hi there,
Sounds like your mechanic is a little out of his depth.
As a former Mitsubishi Mechanic, I know those engines require the inlet manifold to be lifted when changing the sparkplugs.
During the sparkplug change, the plugs may have been cracked, leads fitted incorrectly
like you found. Also the manifold gasket may not have been sealed correctly.
I recommend taking it to another mechanic and may need to start again and check, the plugs, leads, gaskets ect.
You will need to pay for the work carried out.
If it turns out that the previous mechanic is directly at fault, then you may be able to make a claim under the CONSUMERS GAURANTEES ACT.

I live in Alfriston area. Can you suggest someone to take it to please.

I forgot to mention that the call out mechanic who corrected the leads sox that the radiator hose felt impacted.

Can you please explain, not quite sure what you mean.
Thanks.

Sorry I am not sure what they meant either. Apparently the radiator hose was hard to touch and I think they said hot.

All hoses have been replaced new in the past 18 months 2 years.

They suggested that it is a head gasket
issue.

Ok, the hoses should be hot if the engine is up to operating temperature.
Maybe the hoses are expanding due to excessive pressure?.
If they suspect a headgasket issue and the car is missfiring. A cylinder leak test can be performed. This is a process by which compressed air is pumped into one cylinder at a time, and the engine checked for air leaking out. If the headgasket is blown, air quite often will leak into the cooling system causing bubbling in the radiator observed when the cap removed. There may be leaks into other parts of the engine indicating other possible issues. This would be a check that i would get carried out in order to eliminate possible headgasket faults. I would definately get a mechanic to check it out and get to the bottom of it.
