Hi there,

I am trying to get a feel of maintenance costs(general part replacement & routine service check costs) for euro cars as compared to japanese ones.
The cars in question; Post 2011 - Audi Q3, BMWX1, VW Tiguan & Mazda 3 hatchback.

Sorry, i know that these are not in the same class but with my limited knowledge, i am
just trying to get some comparable inputs in $terms to ascertain long term costs involved(given the general thing that euro ones are more expensive to maintain than japanese ones).

I own a 2009 mazda 3 hatch and a general servicing costs me about $200-250 at the mazda dealer. Unsure of replacements ( eg. headlamps, tires or so just to take some ).

Appreciate your expert comments on this. Thanks in advance.

As a sweeping generalisation, European cars cost more to maintain in New Zealand, and arguably an SUV will be a little heavier on tyres etc than a small passenger car.
As an indication, a Gold Service for a Japanese car at an AA Auto Centre is $209 for AA Members, compared with $279 for a European car.
Like Japanese cars, expect the main dealer to charge more.

Thank you for the reply.
On the same note, how much will it cost comparatively to replace a part(any part that wears out most & needs replacement can be taken as an eg. here) on euro vs jap ones.

Just to get a better picture when it comes heavy on pocket.

A part? Sorry, that's a bit too vague. It's fairly safe to assume that the the cost of the total parts required to build a $60k vehicle will be more expensive than those required to build a $40k vehicle, so an upmarket European vehicle will be constructed of more expensive parts.
