Hey there i called my local mechanic and he'll give me a quote on monday. I just wanna make sure he isn't ripping me off. I put everything apart already and a new belt tensioner from gates with the part no: 38489 needs to be installed and a new timing belt. The engine is a EZ 30 H6 from 2002.
I found the tensioner for 130 incl. shipping and a timing belt for 30 and i would also be able to do it by myself but I'm pretty busy at the moment and need the car to be fixed asap.
I already read some articles on the web where they say it shouldn't be more then 300 incl. labour and parts is that a good quote?
Cheers Fred

The labour cost is likely to be the biggest component in replacing a cambelt and tensioner, so if you are capable of doing the job yourself you will save money. However, if you do it wrong (ie; get the timing wrong) you risk damaging your engine when you start it up, so only attempt this job if you are competant otherwise you will end up spending thousands on correcting the mistake.
For a professional to carry out this job, I'd expect it to be around $1,000. However, you could ring around some mechanics for a closer estimate.
