Bit of a left field question but thought I'd ask it anyway.

I have an intermittent problem with my speedo. It quite often doesn't work when I start off from cold. After a few seconds it sometimes just comes back to life while driving. If it isn't working when I start off it sometimes only comes back to life after I have stopped at a traffic light etc.

Any thoughts on what could be the problem.

Do you know it it's a cable system or is it run by an electrical wire via a sensor at the transmission?

Would it connect directly to the auto transmission, and if so do you have any idea where on the auto transmission the sensor or cable would be attached?

This should be an electric system and the problem is most likely the speed sensor. It is located on top of the gearbox, towards the rear as you are looking from the front.
