Dear advisor,

My car has suspension creaks and clonks when driven on uneven roads. Mileage 146000km. Would checking the suspension in the workshop involve a lot of dismantling parts of it? Is it OK to use used parts like shock absorbers taken from other cars with a much lower mileage? I hope not to spend too much as it's an old car of 14 years.

Thanks.

Hi there,
For a car of this mileage I would expect to see worn swaybar links and mounts. This would give clonking on uneven surfaces. I would check this first. Used parts are a good cost effective option, however you can't garantee the problem will be fixed or how long it will last. I would ensure the technician knows 100% what the fault is before replacing too many parts.
