We have a 2004 2l Rav4 auto (18,000km), all wheel drive and are wanting to tow a caravan in the region of 1300kg laden weight. We are considering replacing it as we understand it is a bit underpowered for towing this sort of weight. 2 possibilities we are looking at are:
1. 2.4l 2007 Rav4 with a tiptronic gearbox CVT
2. Suzuki Escudo 2009, 2.4 manual

Both in similar condition, around 50,000 km. Would either of these two vehicles be an improvement on our current vehicle? If so which would would be the better?
We will be towing the caravan up hills (Kilmog on the Dunedin southern motorway fort example) and on average once every month or two.
