I saw this car yesterday and it seems pretty good, in general. I would not consider buying it without a pre-sales check, either AA or with local Mazda garage, but before spending that money, I have one concern that I would like an opinion about.

I noticed that as the car accelerated through the (automatic) gears, there was a faint grinding noise at each change of the automatic transmission. It was most noticeable under a little bit of load when pulling away from stopped (i.e. changing from 1->2 then 2-> 3).

Could there be an innocent reason for this (and if so would presales pick that up) or should I be quite concerned? The car has done about 110,000 km.

Hi there,
It does sound like it may be a problem starting to show, I recommend checking with an automatic transmission specialist to see if it is something to be concerned about or a normal sound for these cars. I am not aware of any inherent faults in these cars.
