Hi. I was wanting to get an expert opinion about having Wynns Stop Leak added to my oil to minimise oil leaking from the engine. I have had the oil pan gasket replaced however it is still leaking. Also what oil would be recommended by AA for my next service. Thanks

Hi there,
If your vehicle has high mileage, it may have a few issues causing the oil leaks. I would try and avoid using stop leak products, if they modify the oil properties enough to stop leaks, I would question the lasting effect on you engine. It would be considered a last resort for a tired engine, and may only offer a short term result.
The Castrol website recommends a 10w40 oil for this vehicle.

Hi Cade. I have had the car raised by a mechanic and inspected for oil, and after replacing the gasket pan they found oil leaking from the left hand side of the gearbox, front engine area and power steering joint. I agree with you and are reluctant to use Stop Leak but would now be interested to know these issues are repairable and if it would be economic to fix. I would appreciate your view and advice. Thanks

Sounds like a lot of different areas to look into. If the vehicle was your prized possession and in immaculate condition, I would maybe pick the leaks off one by one.
The steering leak I would imagine to become a warrant issue soon, I've replaced a Taurus steering rack before and it is not an easy exercise and therefore would be costly, you may find it hard to find a used part and may need to get your steering rack reconditioned to fix the leaks. My thoughts after speaking to you on the phone earlier, would be maybe pick the leaks off one-by-one if you intend to keep the vehicle long term. Bear in mind repairs may not be cheap, and put it in the un-economical to repair area.

Thanks that sounds like a sensible approach. I will take it to some specialists and get their recommendations on how these issues can be resolved and get some quotes. I would like to keep the car for a while yet as other than these issues it is going well. Thanks again.
