Our car manual says service should be at every 15000 k or every 12months. We were averaging about 15000 k a year but now do much less due to retirement. Car is reqularly used but probably will only do about 5000 a year,mostly short trips.IAs it may take 2 or 3 years to clockup 15000 K how important is the 12 monthly service? . Does the oil or something else deteriote over time? Car is 4 years old.

It ensures your vehicle is getting regularly inspected for potential issues as well as keeping the replaced or topped up. It is especially good if you off-set this with your 12 month warrant, so the vehicle is being looked at every 6 months.
The engine oil does have a shelf life inside the engine and even more so the less you use your vehicle. So it is still recommended to carryout a service once a year.
