Last week i got the Cam belt replaced on my 2006 Hyundai Getz(85000km).The Garage also replaced the power steering belt as it was cracked.
Car was picked up Friday afternoon and dropped at daughters work so she could drive it home.It was making odd whooshing/zooming noises when you took your foot of accelerator.Took car back to garage on Monday morning, where they noticed that the power steering belt was so tight that it was vibrating the power steering unit. They adjusted the belt which removed the vibration .Car still making the whooshing noise so took it back on Wednesday for another adjustment, the garage then said power steering pump was stuffed so replacement needed.Pump has been replaced, still sounds odd to me.My concern is that the garage actually caused the power steering pump to fail by incorrectly installing the new belt causing excess tension/force on the pump pulley causing the bearing to fail. The head mechanic actually said on the Monday that power steering pumps don't fail at 85000km.So from my point of view i shouldn't be paying for anything except the cam belt replacement.Do i have a leg to stand on,or do i have to pay for the Power steering failure?

Thanks Warren

Hello Warren

If you believe that the fault has been caused by the over tightening of the belt you should raise your concern with the workshop, give them a chance so sort it out If they refuse to repair it and claim it is not their fault, you could take the parts to a power steering specialist for examination. if the evidence points to them being at fault and they refuse to repair the issue you could dispute in in the disputes tribunal.
