Hello,

I have a 03 Ford Falcon XR6 and have recently had a new sump plug + thread fitted as whoever owned the car before me had kindly stripped it!

After picking my car up and having only driven it only once, that night I started it and the oil light stayed on with beeping to accompany it. I stopped the car immediately and checked the oil and it was full.

I asked the mechanics and they think it's most likely a faulty oil pressure sensor. They said I would be fine to drive it (about 1km) to their workshop as long as there is oil in it, it should be fine.

I am just wanting to see what your thoughts are on this as I am paranoid about stuffing my engine but at the same time I agree with them that there shouldn't be any reason for the oil pressure to be low?

Cheers

Hi there,
There is a big risk with driving the car with the oil light on.
It may be as simple as a faulty switch, but if it not and the car is lacking oil pressure, it will cause expensive damage. If you do run the vehicle, check for noises and make sure oil is getting to the rocker gear (look into the oil filler). The safest bet is to get the vehicle transported for repair.

I started the car briefly and noticed it sounded a bit noisy so shut it down and it has now been towed to the mechanics for diagnosis

Cheers
