Hi - Can you please advise whether a 2012 Subaru Forester X AUT has a chain or belt cam drive and if a belt at what stage should it be checked out? Many thanks Jim

Hi there,
It would depend on the engine type fitted to this model. The EJ25 runs a cambelt, while the FB25 switched to a chain.
A plate under the bonnet should be able to indicate the engine model type, or.
The way you can physically tell is if you can see the front of the engine and it is covered with plastic covers in behind all the A/C and alternator drive belts, then its cambelt.
If in doubt, just ask a workshop technician, they can advise within a few seconds as to what drives it.
A Subaru cambelt needs to be replaced at 100,000km or 5 years according to the service schedule.
