Hi just looking for some advice my car failed a wof today the inspector said I needed new break pads as my front were worn and some other minor stuff that I was confused about. The guy couldn't really give me any answers so thought I just do what he says and get it retested. I have now removed the front break pads and I don't think they need changing at all, on the right wheel the inside break pad has 6/7mm left and outside has 4/5mm left and very similar on the other wheel... thought I would ask your opinion on when they require replacing any info would be of great help.

Hi there,
Wof inspectors only perform a visual check of the brakes without disassembly, so they will fail them if they look low (through the wheel) and may ask for you to get them checked and replaced if necessary.
So if they are in good condition still and thicker than around 2.5mm, just take photos or record the measurements. And go back to the wof inspector and ask to be passed. They may not like that you did it yourself and may want proof from a workshop that you had the brakes inspected and they are in fact ok, before they pass the wof.
