Hello,

I have Toyota Starlet Caret 1997. A WoF is due for this car next month. During some past days, it has started to produce a clicking noise when turning a sharp right turn. I suspect this is a CV joint noise. Is this a WoF problem? and what if I take this car to my practical test next week? Can an instructor fail me with this problem in my car?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there,
A noisy CV joint itself is not usually a warrant failure unless it is absolutely worn-out and poses danger of collapse, usually coupled with a split cv boot and grease spreading everywhere. Early stages of cv wear (clicking on tight turns) normally generates a note on the wof sheet.
So the driving instructor should not have an issue with this, however you will need to ask them about this specifically as they are the ones sitting in the car with you.
