I often read that older CVT's can sometimes be prone to faults. Is there a stage where these transmissions have become more reliable, and if so when?

For instance what model age might a Nissan with CVT be regarded as no more prone to problems than a conventional auto? (I'm thinking in terms of Tiida, Wingroad, Note etc)

There is no fixed time when they suddenly improved however over the years they have advanced and become stronger.

Out of your list Nissan list, I haven't herd of as many issues with the Wingroad or the Note 2008 on. If you are really worried about CVT transmissions there are still other models that don't use CVT transmissions around.

Thanks - not really worried, just curious as too how cautious I should be with some makes/models.

Wingroad would suit what I want and I see there are a few conventional autos amongst those listed so perhaps that's the way to go.
