Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupé 2016 car review

The coupé is the sportiest variant of the C-Class, and it’s easily identified by its striking front section which is carried through to the long drawn out roofline – a typical coupé feature. The new C-Class is crammed full of helpful technology and functions that will blow your mind – it certainly had that effect on me anyway.

New sporty interior

The C-Class has the ambience of the saloon, but it offers a new level of sportiness. Specifically designed sport seats envelop its occupants and the automatic belt feeder means no more swivelling around in your seat, trying to find the seatbelt. The seats are upholstered in luxurious ARTICO man-made leather and DINAMICA microfibre with red contrast stitching. The cockpit is also very refined with its multifunction, sports steering wheel, AMG sports pedals and open-pore, black ash trim.

Optimum response without harshness

The new C-Class suspension offers a high level of comfort with low road noise and tyre vibration. There are two standard variants, and both offer a 15mm lower ride height. Choose the comfortable AGILITY CONTROL suspension with sporty character or, if you’re after even more agile handling, the sports suspension comes with stiffer spring and damping, including SPORTS DIRECT-STEER.

There’s also the option for the ultimate suspension-seekers out there to upgrade to the AIRMATIC air suspension. It’s electronically controlled and has continuously adjustable front and rear damping for a smooth, quiet ride in all conditions. The driver also has five driving modes to choose from –eco, comfort, sport, sport+ and individual.

Stress reducing, semi-autonomous driving assists

It’s amazing what technology can do to keep occupants safe and stress-free. There are several safety and assistance systems within the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive concept, including ATTENTION ASSIST, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS and Adaptive Brake Assist, all of which come as standard.

Other interesting functions that are controlled by cameras and satellite navigation are the Traffic Sign Assist and Climate Control. The Traffic Sign Assist uses cameras to give you warnings if you’re going the wrong way, and also alerts you of speed limits and the start and end of no-overtaking zones. The Climate control function uses sat-nav to detect tunnels and, upon entering them, it automatically closes the air recirculation flap within the air conditioning system and opens it again after exiting – pretty smart, if you ask me.

Mercedes me connect

Like other Mercedes models, the new C-Class Coupé has an extensive range of free, standard s and remote, online services available as part of the Mercedes me connect package. Standard services include automatic emergency call (eCall), accident recovery, breakdown assistance and an after-sales service. The remote online services comes as standard with COMAND online and is free of charge for the first three years. This system allows you to access vehicle information at all times, including the status of the windows and doors, mileage, tyre pressures and other diagnostic data. There’s even a vehicle tracker function, remote locking and unlocking for the doors and remote activation and deactivation for the auxiliary heating.
