Learn to drive with AA Driving School

Learning to drive is not easy as the national driving test pass rates show. Our driving school has a wealth of experience and expertise, and we pride ourselves on the quality and professionalism of our driving instructors. As well as driving lessons and defensive driving courses we also offer more advanced driver training to businesses and individuals. So no matter what your level of experience, we can help you become a better and safer driver.

The licensing process

Along with our driving school, the AA can help you with other aspects of getting your license – from booking your tests, to helping you learn the road code with our online quiz.

Step one

Learner Licence

You're able to sit the learner driver licence test when you’re 16 years old. Make sure you’re ready for it by using our quiz.

Step two

Restricted Licence

This test is a practical in-car driving test. It was made harder in 2012. The NZTA recommend about 120 hours of driving practice to pass the restricted test.

Step three

Full Licence

Take the full driver licence test after you’ve had your restricted for 18 months – reduce it to 12 with a Defensive Driving Course.
