Am considering putting mags on my 2005 Hyundai Sonata currently wearing Hakook Ventus 225/55/R16 tyres. What offset should I choose (Range 18-40+)?

Since 16" is standard would it hurt the car's performance and safety in any way switching to a larger size? Also for an 18" what width tyre would work best?
