Daytime running lights have been proven to improve visibility of approaching traffic in the daytime and so reduce accident risk, particularly in low light conditions or bad weather. They are now standard equipment on many models, particularly European models where use of daytime lights is mandatory in some countries. There is less risk in a following car not seeing the car in front so they are not fitted to the rear, but if visibility is very bad during the day you should also turn your headlights on (dipped beam), or fog lamps (in foggy conditons only) which will also activate rear fog lamps if fitted.
