Hi Jack, are the Navman MY80T's any good, or are other GPS systems better? So many on the market Tom Tom.. etc. Do some automatically get updates by going on line or does one need to buy a new card and fit it in the machine? I used one recently whilst on a motoring holiday in USA and am old school having previously used road maps and working out places of interest to stop etc. This last trip we used a gps and it gave options of routes, but mainly freeways which missed out on all the scenic bits, they only came up as options as we were driving by, and too late to turn off freeway then. so I was a bit disappointed in it. Yes we got from a to b but not by the most scenic off road little town, stop and enjoy the journey route. I would want a model to give a scenic route as well as the most direct route and also a quickest route in traffic conditions, does this type of model even exist? What is the best model / brand that you would suggest, even to take overseas, or just use an iphone? Oh technology! I just cannot keep up! Thanks and kind regards.
Different brands and models have different features. Navman and TomTom have very good websites which explain what their different models do. There is no best brand or model and new ones come out frequently. The question is what do you want to use it for. For example is real time traffic important? Do you travel for business or pleasure? Do you want something portable that you can take overseas or use in other vehicles? Do you need a large display?
We expect to see more car navigation applications before the end of this year. You should note that different manufacturers may use different versions of Operating System. When using phone nav applications, for safety, you should always make sure that you have a voice system and the ability to have this fixed to the vehicle similar to a hands free kit.
