My brother in the USA wants to buy me a "nice NEW little car" and would like to know how much that might cost in NZ all in, licensed and on the road, suitable for a senior citizen. He has been a Toyota owner there.

I can’t answer your question specifically as many recommended retail prices are negotiable or you may find some vehicles are advertised at reduced prices for a host of different reasons.

On-road-costs (ORC’s) are normally additional to the advertised recommended retail prices however, that can also change depending on the new vehicle distributor or dealer concerned. Sometimes they are included in a special limited offer deal.

If your brother is paying and likes the Toyota brand, then I suggest you at least start your search by looking at the Yaris model line-up. Recommended retail prices range from around $24,000 up to $30,500.

Allow another $800 for ORC's as a general guide.
