I brought a Mazda axela 2009 with flat battery on both normal and istop ones and was quoted by mazda 1k for 2 battery plus callibration.
I think that’s way to expensive for me and was wondering if I can run car on just one battery without the istop one . Also does a car need to be callibrates after it gets new battery and what’s the purpose of it .

Thanks a lot

Hi there,
Yes it is important that the new battery details are programmed into the vehicle electrical system and that the system Is calibrated correctly.
It is unfortunate that this system has two batteries. AA batteries might be able to give a price for replacement. https://www.aa.co.nz/cars/owning-a-car/batteries/

Hi again,

Do you know if aa can calibrate it or anywhere other than Mazda ? Also would there be any effect if I don’t get it callibrated as it’s running fine at the moment

Hi there,
Usually it would require a manufacture specific process, whoever fits the batteries should be able to access information on the calibration process. A scan tool will be required in most cases. The system may be jeopardised in the long run if you don't calibrate, less about the vehicle running, and more about the systems the battery utilises.

Hi thanks ,

Do you know if aa offers calibration services? I brought the battery off repco.

Not specifically, you might be able to find an Autocentre who might have the equipment to do the job, but more often than not it may end up having to go to the vehicle manufacturer. http://locations.aa.co.nz/aa-auto-centre
