Hi there,
I am writing this email to query about Toyota Avensis 2 Litre 2005 which I am looking to buy.
1. Are these good cars to buy?
2. I understand they have D4 engines which are more complex than your
VVTi engines. I have heard mixed reviews on D4 engines and have been
advised not to buy these cars with these engines as i am COST
conscious? Your thoughts?
3. I believe the engine in this car requires high octane fuel? Is the
running cost high in these cars?
4. I also looked at a Toyota Premio 1800cc 2002 year that has VVTi
engine. Would I be better of with that car in longer run? Would really appreciate your input!!!!!

We would agree with the advice you were given about the D4 engine. Carbon build-up leading to poor running was the main issue with the D4 engine.
The 1.8 VVTi engine in the Premio is a far better option. It is essentially the same engine as fitted to the Corolla and has a good reputation for reliability.
So obviously, our advice is to go for the latter.
