I have been an AA member for over 20 years.

In the past when selling a car, AA has been able to give me an approximate price of the cars worth.

I am selling a 1995 Nissan Pulsar CJ-II, 4 dr sedan, Silver with 135,775km in excellent condition.

If possible, could you please give me an estimate of what price I should advertise the car for?

The AA offers a service called AA Vehicle History Report which provides a vehicle history report (money owing, reported stolen, WoF & registration history etc) which can save a lot of heartache especially when buying a car privately.

Many sellers also use this report to demonstrate the integrity of the sale.

AA Vehicle History Report can also provide an estimated value of a vehicle. All that is required is the vehicle registration number.

The beauty of this service is that it can be done on-line at any time of the day or night and can be used to show potential buyers how the asking price was set. Or call an 0800 number and have the report faxed or emailed to you (see attached link for more detail).

The full history report is available to members for $20 or $25 for non members.

The valuation report only, is available to members for $8.00 and $10 for non members.

Members can ring our free 0800 500 333 line (take option 5) to discuss any technical issues including valuations however, any prices given are very much ball park figures and should be used as a guide only.

Non members can call 0900 58 324 (calls have a flat rate fee of $7.00).

I would estimate the value of your Nissan to be around the $4,000 mark. I have seen them advertised for more from dealers but you need to remember there are no warranties or coverage under the Consumer Guarantees Act when buying privately, so you're asking price needs to be cheaper than a dealer in my opinion.

And be prepared to negotiate.
