Hi AA team,
I am the owner of a Mitsubishi Delica 1995. I have noticed that thick white smoke comes out of the exhaust in the morning and especially after I have not been driving for 2-3 days. I had an issue with a cracked coolant reservoir that I have replaced since. I have fixed it soon enough so it did not cause serious damage. The engine runs smoothly after starting but the amount of smoke coming out is quite worrying. Could you please advise me on what other things I should check for if this is a serious problem. Thanks a lot

Hi Sophie,
This seems pretty normal - if it looks like steam and less like smoke? as in soon clears and doesn't linger?.This is usually attributed to moisture build-up inside the exhaust when the vehicle is sitting, and the steam is the water/condensation evaporating.
The key would be if the coolant and oil levels remain unchanged, and it stops after the vehicle heats up, then I would say this is normal. Steel exhaust attracts moisture, the engine produces heat and so when the two meet it forms condensation which come out of the exhaust.
