Hi, I have a rear wiper fitted to my car but it doesn't work. Does it need to work to pass a WOF? Thanks

Hi there,
The WoF rules appear to outline windscreen requirements but no requirements for the rear window with regards to rear wiper/wash system.
https://vehicleinspection.nzta.govt.nz/virms/in-service-wof-and-cof/general/vision/windscreen-wipe-wash
The NZTA definition of windscreen is: Note 1 - Definitions
Windscreen means all glazing extending across the front of a vehicle that is not parallel to the vehicle’s longitudinal centreline, but does not include a wind deflector. No fitting of overlays or stickers are permitted to the windscreen except those previously mentioned.

I think you will find that anything fitted to the vehicle has to work,Had a vehicle with foglights that were never used but had to work. cheers

Hi mate, NZTA amended that particular rule, as they used to 1/ both have to be operational or 2/ could be removed. Now they can pass if both lights are not operational, without necessarily having to be removed.
Note 5:
A forward-facing permitted lamp that does not comply with the equipment, condition and performance requirements must be made to comply, be removed from the vehicle, or be disabled so that it does not emit a light.
