Hi - quick question - when parked on a hill - I start the car and move the transmission into D - there's a big clunk - this doesn't happen when the car is on a flat surface! Obviously this is not good - but please can you tell me what it's indicative of?! Thanks!

Hi there,
This is normal, because the weight of the vehicle is resting on the transmission parking pawl. Maybe try putting the handbrake on before you put the car in park so that the vehicle can't roll when in park, and make sure the handbrake is operating efficiently enough to hold the car on a hill before selecting park, otherwise the transmission is acting as the vehicle parking brake.
