Dear advisor, my Mazda Verisa’s front brake rotors are 22 mm thick (its pads are 2/3 worn). Would it be alright to use new pads with the same rotors? Thanks :)

Hi there,
The discs will have written on them what the acceptable minimum thickness is for that disc to be considered in a serviceable condition. The discs may even need a skim in order to better service the new pads without noises and shuddering of the brakes if the discs are slightly worn or have scores or ridges on them.

Thanks Cade, for your helpful advice on disc condition and remedial actions. According to the RDA brakes website, the rotors are 23 mm thick when new, with 21 mm the minimum permissible thickness. Do you think the current 22 mm thick rotors are useable with new brake pads and may generally have a similar lifespan as the new pads? (Will check the rotors to confirm minimum thickness indicated). Thanks again :)

Hi there,
I think providing the discs are in good condition, 21mm should be fine to reuse, even a disc skin would take off .01mm at a time if done right.

Many thanks for your valuable advice, Cade. I learn a lot from it 😃
