I own a 2008 Mazda 3 Hatch which has been working perfectly. The other day I drove through some gravel on a gravel road. After shopping and restarting the car it made a small shuddering movement and sound like metal on metal. It disappeared immediately the car started. I have also noticed the same sound when running over ruts in the road and/or cresting a rise on the driveway. I popped into a garage and they couldn't see anything obviously wrong (5 minute looksee check) and the sound didn't occur when they started the car. The problem still occurs and after asking my brother he believes that it sounds like an engine mount rubber may have dislodged. Funnily enough, engine mount problems are a known issue with the Mazda 3 hatchback. Although the car is about 14 years old, it has just clocked 60,000 kms. If I take it to a garage what should I ask the mechanic to check or look for ?

Hi its very likely a stone has become stuck somewhere in the suspension assembly. You can have a go looking yourself through the wheel arches and brush out any stones you find- pay particular attention to the strut cups at the base of the springs. but the best way is to get it up on a hoist with a mechanic to check/ clean it out
