I have recently had an AA technician come to me and diagnose the wrong fault with my car. He told me the fuel pump was not working and that I would need to tow the vehicle to a mechanic for repair. The actual problem was a blown fuse.

The AA Roadservice guys do a great job. Their task is to rescue you and/or your car in the event of a breakdow.. They are not a garage who comes out to do the repair - how could they be for the relatively small membership fee?
From your description, it seems that a blown fuse had stopped the fuel pump from running. It would have been irresponsible of the AA Roadservice guy to replace the fuse and send you on your way, as there is obviously something causing the fuse to blow (possibly an intermittent short in the pump). You might have got 100 metres down the road only for the fuse to blow again. In cases such as this, the system needs to be checked out thoroughly before declaring the problem fixed. The AA guy did the right thing by you.
